My Language Level
The NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements are self-assessment checklists used by language learners to assess what they “can do” with language in three different modes of communication: Interpersonal (speaking or signing with others), Interpretive (reading or listening comprehension), and Presentational (writing or a formal speech act). Ultimately, the goal for all language learners is to develop a functional use of another language for one's personal contexts and purposes.
This app presents you with a series of checklists consisting of statements describing what a language speaker can typically do in a particular mode at a particular level. You'll start the process with the lowest level of proficiency and work your way up. The number of items you check off will determine your level, so make sure to be honest with yourself to best assess your own abilities in your target language. Please read the items carefully and click on the box if you think you have the given capability. The longer you've studied or used the language, the longer this checklist process will take; to complete it accurately, please set aside at least 15 minutes. When you reach your level, you'll be given some advice on how to “level up” to the next one!
